pixies band photoGirl is so groovy, Pixies’ frontman Black Francis wants you to know. He could be referring variously to Kim deal, a founding member who is no longer with the iconic band, or her replacement on bass, Paz Lenchantin. The dynamic is neatly encapsulated in a track on the band’s new album, Head Carrier called “All I Think About Now” that’s written by Francis, is about Deal and is performed by Lenchantin.

In a wide ranging interview ahead of the release of the new album, Francis opens up about the current state of his relationship with Deal, tour plans, whether there is any such thing as an archetypical “Pixies song,” the band’s ongoing snub by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and why he thinks fans will look at Head Carrier as something of a comeback record.

austin city limits photoMake sure your bags are packed and you are ready to go either the weekend of September 30 – October 2 (this weekend) or the weekend of October 7 – 9. This is your chance to win a trip to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. This is the 15th anniversary of the ACL and the acts do not disappoint.

Playing weekend one are major artists like Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves and up and comers like Flume and the Chainsmokers. I saw Kacey Musgraves at Watershed this year and she puts on a great performance. Also playing weekend one is LL Cool J, who is a major draw himself. I would pay big dollars to see him just lick his lips (lol) !!!

Weekend two you could see Major Lazer and Willie Nelson. Other artist accompany them to round out the weekend. I have heard that School Boy Q and Band of Horses put on an amazing show.

Either weekend is looking like a winner to me!! Good luck!!

Pantera’s Rex regrets use of Confederate flag

by Kelly M on September 29, 2016

confederate flag pantera band photoPantera regrets use of the confederate flag in many of their shows and albums to the point where it was a symbol of the band. The use of the flag became popular after they used it as album art on the back of their 1996 album The Great Southern Trendkill.

Pantera regrets the use of the flag because of the recent wide spread controversy. The flag is now more than ever being associated with repression and racism. Pantera does not want to be associated with racism and says that is not what their band is all about, in fact the band is about the exact opposite. Pantera denies any wrong doing but regrets the use of the confederate flag since they are now being looked at differently because of their use of this symbol.

Is It Really AC/DC Anymore?

by Kelly M on September 27, 2016

Axl rose acdc photoAC/DC is having a hard time keeping the band afloat. With new front man Axl Rose, some band members feel that they’d prefer leaving the band than work with Axl Rose.

With the retirement of bassist Cliff Williams, departure of singer Brian Johnson and main man Malcolm Young, it hardly feels like AC/DC anymore. Is Axl Rose is going to be the answer?

It seems as if the writing is on the wall and hard core AC/DC fans will more than likely just remember the old days when AC/DC rocked without Axl Rose. Since Chris Slade, AC/DC drummer, is practically going to be the only remaining original member, fans will have a hard time latching on to Axl Rose’s Gun’s and Roses style.

kurt cobain photoNirvana’s fan page on Facebook commented on a theory that Kurt Cobain may be alive. The comment on the fan page indicates that the conspiracy theorists who have made allegations that Nirvana’s front man may still be here on earth, are ridiculous.

There are some mixed opinions about this theory, but the Facebook fan page made several sarcastic comments about even considering the possibility that the front man could be living. Some fans following the fan page were offended by the poster’s sarcastic tone and indicated that an official Facebook page is no place for sarcastic opinions that could be read as making light of Kurt Cobain’s death.

This of course is not to be confused with the idea that Kurt was murdered which is another story entirely.

Metallica saved Anthrax says Frank Bello

by Kelly M on September 25, 2016

The bassist from classic 1980’s metal band Anthrax (Frank Bellofrank bello anthrax photo) has publicly thanked Metallica for getting his band back on track.

Anthrax toured with Metallica in 2010 which re-motivated the band to make new music in years to follow. They have since released two albums. Before the reunion tour, the band had been struggling with interpersonal issues and motivation to continue to create music.

Frank Bello stated that he knows that Metallica could have easily declined headlining the tour, and because they did not, Anthrax was put back on the radar. He described touring with Metallica to be humbling. The band’s singer, Joey Belladonna,  is back to helping them create better music than they have in many years.

cell phone concert photoArtists in Fear Factory discuss why they are ok with their fans, who pay money to go to each show, recording videos and experiencing the shows through their phones despite multiple other high profile artists condemning fans who do so.

Fear Factory says that fans can enjoy the show anyway that they like because they have paid for their tickets and have earned that right. Except to throw bottles at artists on stage, that is still a no no. 🙂

Basicallythey believe that the fans should enjoy the show as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else or get in the way or anyone else enjoying the show themselves. Fans of Fear Factory rejoice and film away!

Misfits man Danzig wanted to be a pro wrestler

by Kelly M on September 23, 2016

misfits danzig photoThe frontman for the ever pervasive band – Misfits, aspired to be a pro wrestler before focusing his attention on a music career. In an interview with wrestler/musician, Chris Jericho, Glenn Danzig says that he turned away from his wrestling dream because he thought he was too small and because he watched a friend suffer a devastating injury to his arm while wrestling in high school. Yet Danzig admits that the decision to play music rather than pursue wrestling turned out pretty well.

The Misfits are reuniting for a series of shows, including Riot Fest in Chicago, Illinois. Members of the band, which also includes Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, have indicated that the band may also take their reunion to the studio to record new songs after their planned shows are complete.
